zless [ name ... ]

説明¶

zless コマンドは、 圧縮されたテキストファイルや通常のテキストファイルを、 ソフトコピー端末上で一度に全画面で閲覧するためのフィルターです。 このコマンドは、 環境変数 LESSOPEN に '|gzip -cdfq -- %s' を、 環境変数 LESSMETACHARS に '<space><tab><newline>;*?"()<>[|&^`#\$%=~' を設定して、 less を実行することと同じです。 しかしながら、 zless コマンドを利用できるようにするのは、 それだけの価値のあることだと、 多くの人が考えているようです。

バグ¶

zless コマンドは、 標準入力経由でパイプで渡された圧縮データでは動作しません。 zless には引数で入力ファイルを指定する必要があります。 ...|zless の代わりに ...|gunzip|less を使うと、 圧縮データをパイプから読み込むことができます。
