PNG2PHM(1) General Commands Manual PNG2PHM(1)

NAME

png2phm — make a raster phantom file from a PNG image

SYNOPSIS

png2phm in.png out.phm

DESCRIPTION

writes a phantom file containing one element that refers to the PNG image. The image is centred on the origin with one world unit per pixel, so a 256 by 256 image is a 256 by 256 phantom; its grey levels run from attenuation 0 for black to 1 for the brightest value the file can hold, whatever its bit depth. A colour image is converted to grey by luminance, and a transparent area counts as nothing there: attenuation 0, whatever colour it carries. Every PNG form is read: grey or colour, 8 or 16 bits per channel, with or without transparency.

When the two files are written to the same directory the phantom refers to the image by file name, so the pair can be moved together; otherwise by its full path.

The same phantom can be made from the graphical interface with choosing a PNG image; the two produce identical phantom files.

Every tool is run through ctsim-nogui, as in "ctsim-nogui png2phm ...", or directly if a symbolic link of that name points at it.
